Learn How to Detail Your Personal Vehicle

by Guest Author on May 27, 2011 · 0 comments

Washing and detailing a car is two different projects. Washing is surface cleaning, while detailing involves cleaning those hard to reach areas. Both rid the auto of built up grit, grime and highway film that cause corrosion when left on a vehicle. However, to make the car look new and increase its resale value it needs detailed, which removes dirt from the hard to reach areas that simple washing overlooks. Detailing is hard work and takes longer than a simple wash job, but with each step, the vehicles looks improve. Aside from detailing and washing your car, keep in mind that you can save money on car insurance if you search online for Automobile Insurance in Alberta Kanetix.

Always wash a car in the shade to prevent spotting caused by fast drying. The inside of a garage is preferable to avoid particles floating in the air. Wash leather, vinyl, plastic, carpet and rubber with products that are material specific and contain UV protection. Start with the interior of the vehicle, so dust particles from inside does not settle on the exterior. Remove everything possible from the inside of the car. Take out the floor mats, and clean them thoroughly by washing carpeted mats in a machine, or wet down plastic ones, scrubbing and rinsing them before applying a protective treatment.

If small stains exist on the carpet, use a stain remover being careful not to over saturate them. The dashboard often presents a unique challenge because of buttons and controls. Use vacuum attachments first, and then finish with cotton swabs, soft toothbrushes, and different sized paintbrushes. Use cans of air used to clean computers to clean the places unreachable by other methods. Wrap electrical motor parts under the hood with plastic, spray with an all-purpose cleaner and then rinse off. This helps alleviate the build up of fluids and dirt on the engine.

On the cars exterior always work from top to bottom. Rinse the car several times to remove the loose grit, but avoid using a high-pressure hose as it can remove paint around chips and scratches. Wash with a specially formulated detergent using a soft mitt or cloth. Make sure the car is clean before drying it with a chamois or soft cloth. Clean the tires and wheels with the proper products, and apply touch up paint to chips and deep scratches once the car is clean.

There are several reasons to polish a vehicle. Polishing eliminates minor scratches and adds oil to the paint to keep it from drying out. It is possible to polish a car by hand, but it is easier and quicker with a polisher. Polish at a slow and easy pace to bring out a high luster shine. To protect the previous hard work apply wax. It helps prevent particles from sticking to the surface and makes those that do stick easier to wash off. A wax job normally lasts 60 to 90 days. For the final touch, apply tire dressing to the tires. Allow the treatment to soak for a high gloss finish, or apply and remove immediately for a matte finish. Detailing complete, admire your handiwork.

When you are looking to buy insurance for your vehicle, you should strongly consider comparing quotes online from multiple insurance providers. By doing an auto insurance rates comparison, you will be able to see which insurance company offers the best price for your vehicle.

The SLK350 is powered by a new 3.5-liter V6 that features direct injection and multi-spark ignition. With even more power and better fuel economy than its predecessor, the new SLK engine generates 302 horsepower and 273 lb.-ft. of torque.

CLS Four-Door Coupe Gets First Major Redesign

When it hits the U.S. market in the summer of 2011, the 2012 CLS line will offer a choice of two exciting models, both powered by new biturbo, direct-injection V8 engines.

4.6-liter CLS550 engine produces 402 horsepower and 443 lb-ft. of torque

J.G. Francis, owner of Mercedes Motoring specializes in vintage Mercedes restoration.

In the Fall of 2003 I purchased my first Mercedes Benz for $700, and Mercedes Motoring was born. It was a 1979 300SD dressed in faded maple yellow and sunburned bamboo. Bringing that car back to life taught me a lot about Mercedes-Benz, but more importantly I had finally found something I loved to do…
